Ervin Loomis, 87, of Greene, passed away, Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center. Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene. Interment will be at a later date at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural Greene. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jim Loomis at PO Box 571, Charles City, IA 50616.
Ervin Charles Loomis was born November 4, 1936, at Shell Rock, a son of Charles and Helen (Hoople) Loomis. He moved to Wisconsin in 1944 then about age 17 moved to Iowa to live with Uncle George and Aunt Mildred (Loomis) Menken. He worked for Tom Zurcher as a farm hand then for Zurcher Construction for 33 years. After his ‘first retirement’ Ervin helped Bonnie run the Paddle Inn, where he was known as the ‘Gravy King’. He later worked for American Tool and Engineering in Greene, and attempted to retire but was requested out of retirement 3 times.
Ervin loved traveling and RV’ing with friends and family.
Family includes his daughter: Kim Loomis (Kyle Mann), Charles City; step-grandchildren: Oliver and Miles Mann; as well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie in 2021, his parents, brother Rod, and sister-in-law and her husband Arlene and William Birkholz.
