LE MARS, IOWA – A young Iowa man was shot dead in his apartment, and cops hunted down the suspect.

Police in Le Mars, Iowa, asked for help in locating 21-year-old Omar Martinez Cruz, wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in Le Mars on September 30, 2024. In the incident, police arrived at a local apartment to find 21-year-old Miguel Martinez with fatal gunshot wounds. After an investigation, cops zeroed in on Cruz, but he was nowhere to be found at the time.

Investigators determined that Cruz was in Sioux Center, Iowa, in the early evening hours on October 4, 2024, and a recent tip helped investigators determine that he returned to Le Mars on October 4, 2024, at approximately 8:30 PM. He was dropped off by a black full-size pickup in the Foster Park Area, possibly somewhere on 7th Street SE/SW. Police then identified the driver of the pickup. Cruz was last seen walking in an unknown direction wearing grey sweatpants and a black hoodie. The investigation continued as cops searched.

On October 7, police announced they caught Cruz, and brought him to jail. He is pictured at top.
