Northern Iowa man drowns

HARDIN COUNTY - Emergency responders in Hardin county rushed to help after a 911 call alerted them to a drowning person Sunday afternoon.

HARDIN COUNTY – Emergency responders in Hardin county rushed to help after a 911 call alerted them to a drowning person Sunday afternoon.

According to Hardin County Sheriff Dave McDaniel, on November 5th, 2023, at or about 4:40pm the Hardin County Sheriffs’ Office received a 911 call reporting a drowning, located near 290th Street. Emergency Services were immediately dispatched to the location. An extensive search was conducted, and at or about 1:35am, the body of the deceased was recovered.

The deceased has been identified as Roderick “Rod” Ryan, age 66 of Eldora.

The Hardin County Sheriffs’ Office was assisted by, Hardin County Emergency Management, Hardin County Emergency Squad, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Whitten Fire Department, Union Fire Department, Union Ambulance, Eldora Ambulance, Iowa Falls Fire Department, Story County Sheriffs’ Office Dive Team, Story County Sheriffs’ Office UAS Team and the Hardin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
