Lee Romig, 73, of Mason City, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 pm, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Rhythm Church, 21 8th St SE, Mason City, with Pastor Nathan Gann officiating.

The only child of George and Juanita (Smalldridge) Romig, Lee was born on July 3, 1951. He was a lifelong resident of Mason City and proud of his upbringing in the North End. He was a graduate of the Mason City High School Class of 1969.

Lee’s life was marked by love, laughter, and time spent with family and friends. He swept Pam Goranson off her feet, marrying her on Valentine’s Day nearly 50 years ago after a chance encounter at HyVee, where Pam worked and Lee stopped in to buy beer. Their union blessed them with a daughter, Emily, whom Lee adored beyond measure.

Known for his tough exterior that masked a heart of gold, Lee was a doting grandpa who never missed a chance to cheer on his grandkids at their events. His gift of gab made him friends wherever he went. Lee was a constant presence in the stands at his grandson’s games, often among the first to arrive and the last to leave. He loved cheering on the Mason City Riverhawks, Iowa Hawkeyes and the New York Yankees. His daily ritual included walks with his beloved puggle, Adele, and Emily’s dog, Gizmo.

Lee was known for his spotless car, which was likely the envy of the neighborhood, and his signature attire: ball cap, sunglasses, and tennis shoes.

His faith found a home at Rhythm Church after his grandson invited him to join for worship one Sunday. It was here he found his faith, deepened his spirituality, and made many friends.

Those grateful in sharing in his life include his wife, Pam; daughter, Emily Younke and her fiancé, Shawn Graven; grandchildren, Gaige, Grady as well as Shawn’s children Zach and Aubri; Pam’s siblings, Ron Goranson, Dave (Sue) Goranson, and Krista (Lonnie) Jensen; many nieces and nephews; as well as extended family members and cherished friends, new and old alike.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Juanita; and Pam’s parents, Ken and Pauline Goranson.
