Marilyn Jean (Ubben) McCool, age 71, of Princeton, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, IA. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Dumont is caring for Marilyn and her family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a one-hour prior visitation on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont. Marilyn will then be laid to rest at the Dumont Cemetery.
Marilyn was born on September 12, 1952, in Dumont, IA to Christopher and Clara (Pohl) Ubben. She graduated from Dumont High School in 1970. She was joined in marriage to Kenneth James McCool on June 5, 1976. Marilyn worked at Lutheran Mutual Insurance (now known as CUNA Mutual Insurance) in Waverly, IA and she also worked for YMCA in Waterloo, IA. Most recently, Marilyn and her husband lived at the Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead, a museum in Scott County, IA and she was the Site-Coordinator for Scott County Conservation.
In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed family get togethers as well as board games. Marilyn’s longtime friends Tom and Cynthia Amfahr were an important part of her family. Marilyn took in many foster cats; they were like her family. The cats she cared for brought her so much joy and love into her life.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Ken of Princeton, IA; her brother Russ (Lorraine) Ubben of Dumont, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Carmen (Robert) Lavenz of Waterloo, IA; Roxanne (Randy) Wirtz of Janesville IA, Jay (Lisa) McCool of Laporte City, IA, Rodney (Lana) McCool of Tama, IA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her parents Chris and Clara Ubben; sister Edna Mathers-Shanks; sister-in-law Connie Saltou and brothers-in-law, Charles Saltou, Clark Mathers and Duane Shanks.
Memorials to the family and all contributions will be sent to Chickasaw County S.N.A.P. program or humane society.
