Charles “Charlie” Gene Tantow, 92, of Manly, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 29, 2024 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Charles “Charlie” Gene Tantow, 92, of Manly, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 29, 2024 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel 310 1st Ave N, Clear Lake, Iowa, with Pastor Dan Miller officiating from Celebration Community Church, Clear Lake, Iowa. A Luncheon will follow the service at Ward-Van Slyke. Burial will be held in Lincoln Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral service at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Charlie was born on February 29, 1932, on the family farm in Manly, the son of Maynard and Gladys (Wise) Tantow. He attended country school and eventually went to school in Hanlontown. Charlie was drafted into the Army in 1953, he served the United States of America until 1955. Charlie met the love of his life, Evelyn, shortly after returning from the Army at a Barn dance. On March 1, 1957, Charlie and Evelyn were united in marriage at the Grace Lutheran Church, Austin, Minnesota.

For over fifty years Charlie dedicated his life to farming. At first he managed pigs and cattle but eventually it became only fieldwork. When he wasn’t working he still was outside enjoying nature. Charlie enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling, especially to La Crosse, Wisconsin. He also liked spending time with Evelyn and other loved ones, going out to eat or just having a good time.

Those left to cherish memories of Charlie are his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; sister in-law, Norma (Mahlon) Carver; special nephew and niece, Chad Beenken, Tina (Joe) Mathahs and Nancy (Dave) Halfpap; great nieces and nephews; Kativa, Skylar, Rain, and Noah; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul Tantow; a sister in infancy; siblings-in-law, Edwin “Buck” Beenken, Larry Carver and Ronald Stromley; and niece, Carol Tantow.
