OBIT: George Davis

George Davis, 84, of Charles City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Saturday at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home.

George Melvyn Davis, the son of Gerald and Mardell (Cue) Davis, was born on August 23, 1939, in Evanston, Illinois. He attended school in Sherman through 8th grade, then school in Hardin County, Iowa. He attended high school in Radcliffe for 2 ½ years, then high school in Maynard for 1 ½ years, graduating in 1956. George then served in the United States Army from 1957-1959, serving 2 ½ years in southwest France.

George was united in marriage to Sharon Dyball in 1960 at Little Brown Church. To this union, they had four children: Liz, Jeff, Joe, and Debbie. The couple divorced in 1977. He then married Vicki Hackman in Fayette, Iowa in 1978. To this union, they had two children: Chasity and Mike. George worked and was part owner for 27 years with Schmidt Plumbing in Charles City. He then worked for 12 years with Gil White Plumbing & Heating in Charles City and retired in 2001.

George enjoyed listening to music, especially on the jukebox he owned, reading, and belonged to a book club for over 50 years. He loved to travel and visited every state except for Alaska. He was also an avid sports fan, often cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago White Sox, and Chicago Bears.

Living family members include his children: Liz (Terry) Barnes, Debbie (Glen) Howard, Chasity (Joe) Cook, and Michael (Nicole) Davis; daughter-in-law, Kelly Davis Morland; grandchildren: Nick Barnes, Brooke Davis, Austin Davis, Victoria Benson, Madison Mitchell, Makenna Davis, Tristen Cook, Kerrigan Cook, Tyler Cook, and Rachel Fox; great-grandchildren: Lucas Barnes, Sully Barnes, and Ike Barnes; brothers: Jim (Sandy) Davis and Doug (Diane) Davis; mother-in-law, Lavonne Hackman; and many sister & brothers-in-law and nieces & nephews.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Davis on April 24, 2022; sons, Jeff Davis and Joe Davis; parents; father-in-law, Virgil Hackman; nephew, Matt Davis; and brother-in-law, Sean Hackman.
