Patricia Ann Brown was born on October 30, 1950 and died on November 21, 2023 at Hospice of Palo Alto County. Patricia, affectionately known as Pat, was the cherished daughter of the late William and Catherine (Fitzpatrick) Brown.
Dedicating her life to education and community service, Pat was a prominent member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Graettinger and served as the President of the Catholic Daughters of America. She served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Area Education Association and was a proud member of the Questers Preservation. Pat was a beacon of knowledge, teaching religious education for years after her retirement.
Graduating from Graettinger Community School in 1968. Pat went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Mount Marty College and received a Master’s Degree from Iowa State University. Pat’s passion for shaping young minds led her to teach in various schools, including St. Mary’s Catholic School in Osmond, Nebraska, St. John’s Catholic School in Arcadia, Iowa, and Waterloo East Middle School. Pat’s impact on generations of students resonates in the communities she served.
Pat also held a degree in special education, a testament to her commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of children with special needs. Her professional journey involved many years dedicated to these children, providing them with the care, attention, and specialized education they deserved. Beyond her daytime responsibilities, Pat extended her compassionate efforts into the evenings, weekends and summers at New Hope Village in Carroll, Iowa. There she tirelessly cared for disabled adults, showcasing her unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of life for those with diverse abilities. Pat was committed to building a more inclusive and supportive community for people with disabilities.
Beyond her professional life, Pat found joy in reading, gardening, antiquing, and showcasing her culinary skills. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and love, where she shared her talent as a wonderful cook with family and friends. While not a sports expert, she loved attending the sporting events of all her nieces and nephews.
A dedicated caregiver to her mother, aunt and uncle during their final years, Pat will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to education, kindness, and the joy she brought to those around her. May she rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of learning and love fondly remembered by all those privileged to know her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine, her sister, Sheila McClurg, and her younger brother, Paul, and brother-in-law, Paul Baysore. She is survived by 8 brothers and sisters Dan (Sandy), Joleen Baysore, Betty (Jim) Getzfred, JR (Jane), William (Diane), Tim (Carrie), Tom (Lori) and John (Joleen), 31 nieces and nephews and 35 great nieces and nephews.
