GRUVER, IOWA – A Northern Iowa couple faces drug charges after a traffic stop and a police canine search of their vehicle.
According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a sheriff’s deputy on patrol initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of 445th Avenue on 180th Street near Gruver at 12:12 am on June 7, 2023.
Upon investigation at the scene, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle had a barred driver’s license. The deputy also observed items of possible drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and requested the assistance of the Estherville Police Department’s narcotics K-9 “Pepper” and handler at the scene to assist with the investigation. Once deployed “Pepper” indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation at the scene, the driver Clay Williams age (30) of Milford was placed under arrest.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, controlled substances and paraphernalia were discovered in the vehicle.
A passenger in the vehicle, Abriel Dean age (38) of Harris was also placed under arrest.
Both Williams and Dean were transported to the Emmet County Jail.
Williams was booked for: Possession of a Controlled Substance (marijuana) 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) 1st Offense, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving with a Barred License, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Security, Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device and Improper Brake Lamp.

Dean was booked for: Possession of a Controlled Substance (marijuana) 1st Offense, Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) 1st Offense, Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
