Brendt Landers, 58, of Greene, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital in Waterloo. The general public is invited to visitation Friday, March 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Counsell Woodley Funeral Home in Greene. A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church in Greene. Burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Greene is caring for Brendt and his family.

Brendt Lee Landers was born June 20, 1964, in Charles City, Iowa, to parents Earl and Priscilla (Pooley) Landers. After graduating high school, Brendt began working for Cedar Falls Construction. He worked on a crew patching roads all over, including Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Georgia. In 1987, Brendt was persuaded to move back to Greene and help out at the family hardware store. He worked with his grandparents and mother at the store for a number of years, eventually taking over the operation for himself. Brendt also served as a firefighter in Greene for more than 20 years.

During his childhood, Brendt enjoyed spending time with his brothers training their father’s greyhounds. Later, while he was working construction, he spent a whole winter in Florida caring for the dogs. Brendt also enjoyed snowmobiling and watching his Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was such a big Hawkeye fan that he once hopped on a flight from South Dakota, where he was working construction, to Iowa City to watch the Hawks play football. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, going as far as using his favorite driver’s name for his second son’s middle name.

Brendt had five children, and he loved them dearly. He took every opportunity he could to attend their sporting events. They enjoyed spending time as a family camping in Wisconsin and locally.

He was a great listener and would spend hours on the phone talking with friends and family. Brendt was a helpful, kind man who will be missed dearly by those lucky enough to have known him.

Brendt is survived by his children; Brylee Landers, Owen Landers, Cooper Landers, Jude Landers and Ashtyn Landers, parents; Earl and Priscilla Landers, brothers; Brandon (Trudy) Landers and Barry (Daphne) Landers, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; S. Dwight and Helen Pooley and Carl and Lorena Landers, and by his infant brother Danny Landers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Brendt’s family for his children.
