RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A Rockwell teen avoided serious injury after rolling his Pontiac Bonneville into a ditch Wednesday afternoon.

The Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s office reports that a single-vehicle accident took place on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. At 3:28 PM that day, the Cerro Gordo sheriff’s office responded to Pheasant Ave and 170th Street for a single vehicle collision. The driver, 17-year-old Levi Ward of Rockwell, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville north on Pheasant Avenue when he lost control and went off the roadway into the west ditch, causing his vehicle to rollover on its top. The driver was treated for possible injuries, but was not transported.

It was determined the driver was not wearing a safety belt, according to the sheriff’s office.

At this time, the accident remains under investigation.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Rockwell EMT and Fire, Mason City Fire, and the Iowa State Patrol.
