Statement from White House regarding Supreme Court case of Obamacare versus Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

The health care law puts women and families in control of their health care by covering vital preventive care, like cancer screenings and birth control, free of charge. Earlier this year, the Obama Administration asked the Supreme Court to consider a legal challenge to the health care law’s requirement that for-profit corporations include birth control coverage in insurance available to their employees. We believe this requirement is lawful and essential to women’s health and are confident the Supreme Court will agree.

We do not comment on specifics of a case pending before the Court. As a general matter, our policy is designed to ensure that health care decisions are made between a woman and her doctor. The President believes that no one, including the government or for-profit corporations, should be able to dictate those decisions to women. The Administration has already acted to ensure no church or similar religious institution will be forced to provide contraception coverage and has made a commonsense accommodation for non-profit religious organizations that object to contraception on religious grounds. These steps protect both women’s health and religious beliefs, and seek to ensure that women and families–not their bosses or corporate CEOs–can make personal health decisions based on their needs and their budgets.

I challenge any of you to find just one item on the shelves of HL that was made in the USA. They peddle cheap Chineese child labor and you defend them. HL is far from American and certainly does not represent Christian values and principles.

Anonymous – your opinion is nothing more than a cheap shot & smear. It has nothing to do with the point of the report on the litigation.

You could level the same charges at all sorts of retailers. What part of providing products that their customers want is un-Christian?

I took your challenge today: I found selection of paint by number set made in the USA, a variety of Pine Wood Derby products/kits made in the good ol’ US, Testers paints made in the US, Lindburgh (sp?) made in the US, Revell model kits made in the US (through a few were made in Italy). Everything made in China? Hardly, it took me only 15 min to walk through and find those products.

Look at the label on the cloths you have on. Your as guilty as anyone who shops almost anywhere. Start making your own materials and clothes or STFU!!

As I read this article, all, including government & for-profits are required to provide contraception within their health insurance policies.
This begs the question, since a for-profit corporation is owned by its shareholders as in the Hobby Lobby case, why is it that the owner’s religious beliefs less important than say non-profit religious organizations? What is it about being a for-profit (and tax paying) that gives it less standing?
Don’t you just love the part where the Administration … “has made a commonsense accommodation” … for those “that object to contraception on religious grounds”. I would bet any “commonsense” definition coming out of the Obama administration is skewed sharply to the left and defies many voters ideas termed commonsense.
This is what we get when a Chicago thug politician is elected on the basis of his oratory and the thrill that ran up Chris Matthews’s leg. The American tax-paying voter is being screwed big time.

@4ever49-Great post. Right on.

The Federal Government has no right telling a private business what they have to do for insurance. This is not a dictatorship. They will just cut their employees down to less than 30 hours a week and that will only hurt the employees and put more profits in the owners pocket. How stupid is that?

lvs the government has the right and responsibility to mandate a lot of things. Seat belts in every car, wearing seat belts, hook-ups for baby carriers in cars (even for an old man such as my self that will never have a baby in my car), requiring that you have car insurance, and the list goes on and on. I see no difference in the government saying all insurance policies must cover contraceptives. All the law is doing is setting minimum standards for health insurance.

@DR Dunn-In my opinion we do not need government involved in our health insurance at all. Even you will have to admit they screw up everything and make it more complicated and therefore more costly. The government should stay out of private business. That is how our government was set up and it was for good reason.

is that how you feel about your medicare and social security? How about VA benefits?

@DR Dunn-If the government stayed out of medicare and social security and quit giving it to those who have not earned it and most of all quit “borrowing” stealing from it the programs would be solvent. VA benefits and medicaid are government funded and you know it. They are not the same at all. However, I think e promised the vets their benefits and we owe it to them. There are lots of places they can save money starting with congress and their lifetime benefits that they get for doing nothing and of course the all time favorite I.R.S. This doesn’t even take into account foreign aid to country’s that hate us. You know all this so why are you making stupid statements.

so then the government should be in you business. Don’t you think the government should be able to regulate banks, keep unsafe products off the shelves, and make sure our food supply is safe?

@DR Dunn-that was not the question you asked. Why are you changing the subject? Just like the Great Liar in the White House. When you don’t have a answer, change the subject.

@DR Dunn-and to answer your question even though you changed the subject, that is called Interstate Commerce and is regulated by the Federal Government. Not the same thing at all and you know it.

no point in commenting…you can’t follow a conversation very well.

@DR Dunn-I did answer you. Like all liberals you just read what you want to see. The truth hurts and you just can’t stand it.

“he government has the right and responsibility to mandate a lot of things. Seat belts in every car, wearing seat belts, hook-ups for baby carriers in cars (even for an old man such as my self that will never have a baby in my car), requiring that you have car insurance, and the list goes on and on.”

And yet I can opt out of car insurance by not buying a car and use public transportation instead or by catching rides with friends. Can I do the same with health insurance?

Actually you’re wrong in a big way. The government has the right to regulate business and I believe the constitution says that… I believe we call it the commerce clause.

@Colombo-your wrong again. Until the Great Communist in the White House came along we had a little thing called interstate commerce and that was all the Federal Government was allowed to control. You left wing socialist have violated the constitution and changed that. One day soon we will get control again and make things right.

Obama will be lucky to see the New Year, he is that bad. Them that lives by the sword they die by it.

@anonymous-you had better watch what you post. He is still our president and threatening him is against our laws.

@ LVS, yea I know the law, I never threaten nobody. Do I think somebody will blow him away, yes. Did I threaten it, no.

“I never threaten nobody”

Wow, you’re intelligent aren’t you.

it wouldnt matter any way, obama is a puppet. nothing is real anymore. elections dont even matter they know who will win before it happens.

@ds-that type of thinking is just what Obama loves. They stack the polls and people believe it and say why vote and the win. The same thing happened in our local election. Don’t believe anything in the media and always VOTE.

I applaud Hobby Lobby for taking this stand. If they lose this case, I predict that they will move all employees to part time, their belief is that strong. This will only hurt the employee’s.

This health care mandate is so dumb, they require birth control for a 55 year old woman that has had a hysterectomy for example.

“Move all of their employees to part time”

Just like Jesus would want them to do.
