SPENCER, IOWA — The Spencer Community School District is collaborating with the City of Spencer’s law enforcement and emergency services to conduct training and drills ahead of the 2022-23 school year.
The training will take place at Spencer High School on Monday, August 15, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The school building and facilities will be closed during this time so that officials can conduct an emergency response drill.
“The training on August 15 will be a simulated emergency scenario and, as such, the general public will see an increased presence from law enforcement and EMS services at Spencer High School,” said Spencer Police Chief Mark Warburton. “We ask our community not to interfere with these activities, as they represent important training for our team.”
Traffic barricades will also be used at the site, limiting traffic flow around the school.
“We are pleased to partner with the City of Spencer to conduct these drills and ensure we have a clear plan in case an emergency situation occurs during the school year,” said Terry Hemann, Spencer CSD Superintendent. “We want to thank our local police and EMS personnel for taking the time to conduct this training and help us keep our students, staff, and families safe.”
