Kay Young, 75, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A celebration of Kay’s life will be held privately with her family.
Kay Ann (Perrin) Young, the daughter of Gilbert and Almira (Sewright) Perrin, was born on July 5, 1946 in Charles City. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1964. On August 23, 1964, Kay was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Young at First Congregational Church in Charles City.
Kay owned and operated Young Construction, LTD. with Dick. Kay loved children and worked at Central Preschool in Charles City for many years. Kay volunteered with the Floyd County Museum where she helped with the kids programs on Saturdays and was “Sarah” in the log cabin for many other museum events. She also performed as Strawberry the Clown for many school events.
Kay was an active quilter and was a part of the Quilt Guild. She loved ballroom dancing with Dick, enjoyed her mornings with her coffee club at Dave’s Restaurant, and handmade cards for many friends and family for every birthday and holidays.
Living family members include her son, Brian (Heidi) Young of Ionia; daughter, Jill (Bill) Eckenrod of Waverly; four grandchildren: Jordan, Jacob, Haley and Trey; two nieces: Laura Perrin and Julie (Bobby) Perrin Butterfield; nephew, Dennis Perrin; along with many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter in infancy, Faith Eckenrod; and brother, Harlan Perrin.
