Bert Alden Johnson, 84, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away June 10, 2022 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice. He was born January 27, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to Alden and Helen (Ovitz) Johnson.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Bert grew up in Evergreen Park, Illinois and attended school there until 1954 when his family moved to Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School with the class of 1956. He worked as a semi-truck driver for Montgomery Ward for many years. He met Linda Lyons in school and they eloped to Missouri. He and his brother Bob bought and ran a farm together in Portland, Iowa.
Bert loved traveling; driving a truck was exactly where he wanted to be. He enjoyed meeting new people and was well known for taking a business card from anyone that had one. He’d always keep track of who he met and could make friends with just about anyone. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.
Bert is survived by his children, Deb LaRue and BJay Johnson; grandson, Ryan Moore; brother, Bob (Judy) Johnson; and sister, Barb (Warren) Perry.
