OBIT: Barbara Murra

Barbara Murra, 86, of Ackley passed away on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 at her home in Ackley. Her health had been bothering since October. Judy Kay helped her as needed and took good care of her. Barbara and Judy Kay always took good care of each other. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Monday, February 14, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Ackley with burial in the Pleasant Hill Grant Township Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before the service. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.

Barbara was born to John and Caroline (Meyer) Lehmann of Bradford on November 16th, 1935. Barbara was the 5th of 9 children. She distinguished herself early on by winning the “Most Beautiful Baby” contest at the Franklin Co. Fair. She attended the North Star one room school house as an elementary student. She was so smart that she skipped a grade. Beauty and brains…Barbara was the complete package. She then attended and graduated from Hampton High School in 1952. During these years she also went to Grant Center Lutheran Church and was confirmed on April 19th, 1948. When time allowed, she could be found roller skating. On October 23rd, 1960 she was united in marriage to Bernard Murra in the Grant Center Church. Barbara and Bernie then started their family. They had two children Troy in 1961 and Judy Kay in 1963.

Barbara was a hardworking and selfless lady. Besides raising children, she worked in various office assistant roles. If there was a family get-together she was always up to her elbows in dishwater or cleaning up after the crowd. She was very active in her church as the secretary who put together the bulletins and newsletters. She also occasionally sang in the choir. Church was very important to her. She kept busy keeping up the acreage, gardening and mowing.

Barbara was very servant hearted. She didn’t like people to make a fuss over her, rather she took care of others. She was very patient and kind. She rarely got upset when Judy Kay yelled at the TV if the Hawkeyes were doing poorly. She had a very warm and disarming smile. You know the one… where she tilted her head and smiled pleasantly and made you feel special.

To look at how she decorated her home, it was clear to see that her family and friends are most important to her as your pictures are covering most of the surfaces that will hold a photo. Between church, family and friends; Barbara had her priorities correctly placed.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Judy Kay. Daughter-in-law, Cheryl. She also is survived by her siblings Marlys Barz-Jass (Kenny Trittien) of Iowa Falls. Earl (Rosemary) Lehmann of Elgin. Beverly (Bill) Weidemann of Dows. Karen (Marlyn) Tripp of Hampton, Linda (Steve) Wedgebury of Dike and sister-in-law Jan Lehmann of Alden.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Bernard. Son, Troy; Her parents-John and Caroline Lehmann, and her brothers Laverne, Arthur and Donald.

Thank you for coming today and remembering Barbara and her life well lived.
