OBIT: Vere Harvey

Vere Harvey, the son of Robert and Margaret (Moulds) Harvey was born May 4, 1936, in Estherville, Iowa. He died on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville at the age of 85.

Vere received his education and graduated from Gruver High School in 1954. He then attended Estherville Jr. College until 1956. Vere’s dairy route included hauling cans of milk for the Estherville Coop Creamery until 1963.

On April 8, 1962, he was united in marriage to Karel Mahin at the Little Brown Church. The couple started farming in 1962 and continued to farm until 2018. Karel passed away on April 27, 2008.Vere maintained his own equipment and enjoyed tinkering on various projects. Vere also worked at the Estherville Daily News for 7 years delivering newspapers. Vere was a member of the Gruver Fire Department for 27 years.

Left to cherish Vere’s memory are his children and grandchildren, Daniel (Michelle) Harvey of Estherville and their children, Jason (Rosie) Harvey, of Estherville, Marissa (Logan) Spoo, of Nevada, Shaun (Jackie) Harvey, of Nevada; Deanna (Dan) Oldakowski of Royalton, Minnesota, and their children, Jessica (Rich) Hoheisel, of Royalton, Minnesota, Megan Oldakowski (Jeremy Jutz) of Foley, Minnesota, and Beth (Brenden) Scherping of Little Falls, Minnesota ; Jeff Harvey of Estherville; Joby (Sara) Harvey of Spirit Lake; Kalcey (Candace) Harvey of Dolliver and their children, Coral (Avery) Sorensen of San Antonio, Texas, Caressa Franklin, Cassandra Harvey and Cael Harvey all of Dolliver; great-grandchildren, Layla and Grant Harvey, Carson Spoo, Scottlyn Harvey, Emmeline and Sawyer Hoheisel, Clarke Sorensen, and baby girl Franklin due in February.

Vere had many memories of growing up with his cousins: Mildred, Roy, Ann, Theresa, Loretta, Joe, Judy, Connie, Dean, Don, Hermina, Marlys and Betty.

He has been preceded in death by his parents and wife.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Good Samaritan Society, St. Croix Hospice, or the Shriner’s.
