Man caught after robbing Ames bank

AMES – A man was caught after an Ames bank was robbed.

On May 12, 2021 at 4:32 PM, the Ames Police Department responded to a panic alarm at First National Bank, 405 5th Street. Bank employees reported a male entered the bank, jumped over the teller counter, and demanded money. The male suspect fled the bank and was apprehended several blocks away in a vehicle. The suspect was identified as Kang C. Chotkuac, age 24, of Ames. He was arrested and charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, a class C felony.

The Ames Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate this incident.
