OBIT: Dennis Helgeland Sr.

Dennis K. Helgeland, Sr. 72 of Mason City and formerly of Marshalltown, died Sunday, February 14, 2021 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel. 126 3rd St NE, Mason City. Inurnment will follow in Elmwood St Joseph Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in care of Dennis’ family.

Dennis Keith Helgeland was born on March 15, 1948 in Mason City. He attended Mason City High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Dennis faithfully served his country from December 27, 1966 until his honorable discharge on February 19, 1968.

Following his military service Dennis returned to Mason City. He spent many years working as a drywaller in the area. In his free time Dennis enjoyed gardening and delivering Bible tracts along with his brother, Gordy.

Dennis loved and cherished his family and was very proud of his military service.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Helgeland, Jr., Green Bay, Wisconsin; his grandsons, Martin and Mason Helgeland; half siblings, Linda (Gary) Carberry and Gene (Yoni) Montgomery; nieces, Lindsey Etter and Whitney and Jessica Ruple; and nephew, Nicholas Etter.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Gilmore and Alta (Steinbrook) Helgeland; siblings, Gordy and Lyle Helgeland and Marlene Delk; and his nephew, Justin.
