MASON CITY – The Mason City council will consider the promotion of Aaron Beemer as deputy fire chief at tonight’s meeting.
The position of Deputy Fire Chief Operations will become vacant with the upcoming retirement of Doug Janssen after 26 years with the department. Nine qualified internal candidates applied and were placed on the internal Civil Service list. An Assessment Center conducted by Cayler Consulting LLC, utilizing 3 experienced Fire Chiefs/Deputy Chief from around the state, spent two days evaluating all candidates, along with an internal staff interview panel.
Mason City Administrator Aaron Burnett says, “Using this valuable input to assist with my decision, I have selected Fire Lieutenant Aaron Beemer for promotion to Deputy Fire Chief— Operations.”
The council recently approved a new Fire Chief, Erik Bullinger, as the council tries to resurrect the department from the hiring of former chief Al Dyer, who quit and agreed not to sue the City after Councilman John Lee leaked a very confidential memo to a fetching young male KIMT reporter Lee met secretly with.
