MASON CITY – Al Dyer, the former Mason City Fire Chief who resigned from his job after a confidential memo was leaked to KIMT by councilman John Lee, has reached an agreement not to sue the city in exchange for pay and benefits into next year.
Dyer resigned last week form his job of reasons unknown to the public, but known to others. NIT will not disclose those details at this time. His resignation came after he was placed on administrative leave and a confidential memo was deliberately given to a TV news reporter by councilman John Lee.
Per the terms of the agreement, Dyer will be paid his salary through January 15, 2018 and receive health benefits until January 31, 2018. His starting salary was $95,576 per year. He, in turn, agrees not to sue the City.

first of all—he resigned, the time off was to sort out issues with firefighters that had a beef with him and the possible issues—only the former chief and the people he answers to directly know the rest.

another outside chief goes bad, should be the headlines..when is the city gunna smarten up and hire from within, you people don’t know what the city paid the company to search for new chiefs, well it was a lot and what did we get for it?? a crooked fire chief and another chief that doesn’t want to be here in less then 2 yrs is looking elsewhere. money wasted

Let’s not forget about the $90K the city paid that crazy cop Maria Ohl. The city and it’s attorney need to finally take a stance and fight one of these extortion settlements and send a message to city employees and others that if they try to extort the city they will have an expensive legal fight on their hands. It may cost the city legal fees to defend but that would pale in comparison to what it has paid out so far. Why have a city attorney that’s afraid to go to battle?

Maria Ohl was a nutjob hired to fill a quota.
First, Southbridge Mall holiday, part time security guard does not qualify as law enforcement. Second, if you truly believe what you wrote, that is very concerning and perhaps your employer needs to identify you as you are delusional and most likely a threat to the public in your “law enforcement” position.

So he settled his lawsuit UPFRONT for about $150,000.00. Smart move Al Dyer’s part.

John Lee is totally incompetent and should resign. His ego is so big he is incapable of making sound decisions. The worst part is he is teaching our kids his bs. I am hyvee and see Brian Tabbick and he says Mr. lee you got anything for me and John say yeah I will send you a screen shot of a confidential memo but don’t tell anybody. Just who I want representing the city if your judgement is that flawed you need to resign.
Secret government is the problem, not John Lee. You know why the Clear Lake City Council was all hush hush about that McKesson deal back in 2013? Because McKesson was screwing a bunch of their workers by closing a plant to union bust. CL Council went right along with the plan. All transactions and deals by government in the name of the people need to be open, honest, and transparent. The era of secrecy and tax breaks needs to end.
I have to agree with you. Two faced elected officials (liars) have done much harm to America. This country is being constantly lied to by both parties and Trump has exposed all of that. They are on his ass constantly for trying to make all our lives and the country better. I admire his tenacity. He has put up with more then anyone should. This idea of giving tax money to a company to re-locate from one state to another is about as UN-AMERICAN as it gets. Lowering wages using tax dollars lowers our economy. We end up collecting less Federal and State tax dollars as well as less money going into the Social Security fund. How stupid is that?

Maybe John Lee should pony up to pay this man. Why should the city (tax payers) have to pay for his stupidity and lack of integrity to keep his big mouth shut.
