MASON CITY – NIT has confirmed that Mason City Fire Chief Al Dyer has resigned.

Dyer’s resignation was received at city hall, acting City Administrator Kevin Jacobson tells NIT.

Dyer became embroiled in controversy when a secret memo on Dyer’s work status addressed only to the City Council and the Mayor was leaked to KIMT by councilman John Lee – despite warnings that it could place the city into legal harm’s way. Dyer was put on administrative leave for reasons NIT will not report at this time.

Today’s news was first reported by KIMT – the employer of Dyer’s good friend Brian Tabick. Tabick was the reporter whom Lee leaked the confidential memo to.

John Lee was absent from last night’s council meeting amid calls for his resignation due to the leak.
