NASHUA, IOWA – A Nashua man has died after the Caterpillar grader he was operating was struck by a train Friday morning.
The accident happened at 7:45 AM in Nashua. A 1999 Caterpillar grader operated by 64-year-old David P. Zwanziger was northbound on Jasper Avenue, plowing snow. A Canadian Pacific train was westbound on rail tracks at Jasper Avenue and struck the grader the passenger side.
As a result of the collision, Zwanziger was killed.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Chickasaw county sheriff’s department and the New Hampton fire department rescue squad.
