Man involved in allegedly violent incident at hotel to stand trial

MASON CITY – A man who police say was intoxicated and damaged a hotel before he committed an assault says he’s not guilty ands will stand trial next month.

The incident took place early on the morning of November 22, 2016, when Mason City police were called to the Days Inn hotel, 2301 4th Street SW, at about 1:34 AM, for a report of an intoxicated subject. Officers then encountered a man they have dealt with before, 20-year-old Darrian Troy Moorehead. Apparently, Moorehead was intoxicated and had damaged property at the hotel, and did not go quietly as officers attempted to take him into custody.

Once he was arrested, Moorhead was charged with criminal mischief for damages not exceeding $500.00, public intoxication and assault on a peace officer. He was taken to the Cerro Gordo county jail and held on $1,000 bond. He was finally released after a December 20 bond review hearing. He entered a not-guilty plea and awaits a jury trial set for February 7. A pre-trial conference (possible plea deal) is slated for January 23.

Moorhead was charged with fifth-degree theft by Mason City police back in August and later pled guilty in September. He was ordered to pay $320.00 in fines and court fees. Records show he has failed to make a payment on that balance.

Moorehead, Darrian Troy
