Sometimes it's shocking what goes on in Mason City, because it's always a surprise.

Sometimes it’s shocking what goes on in Mason City, because it’s always a surprise.

What’s next for Mason City’s downtown? Until four-sixths of the current city elected are out… it’s really anyone’s guess.  Let’s hope the seventh to be picked December 6 has more sense.

Both the trash burning plant and the Pig People were thrust upon the population without a chance to vote one way or another. In both incidences it was outside forces that diverted horrific consequences that would have launched cancerous debris across the city coming from the burning plant… the pig people would have leveled this city totally. It would be unrecognizable after one year and in addition they would have dominated the entirety of the city from the moment the first load of hogs were unloaded.

Here is my thought; the first of each month, maybe in that Sunday Globe paper along with a full page on North Iowa Today at the same time, the Economic Development Commission could layout the total activity that took place over the last reporting period. The name and complete particulars of each prospect that either approached us or who that agency went to see.

Why should there exist all this “behind closed doors” secrecy? Why isn’t this information revealed openly to the entire community? These are not military secrets. Economic development here in town has been run like a covert operation, hiding everything from the residents who live and work here.

Why?

In a real community every resident works for progress… if they are allowed.

Nothing at all is in store for Mason City and its downtown other than the long, slow decline into complete irrelevance. Those who can leave, will, and those who can’t will continue to bicker over nonsense and spend tax money in hopes that enough microbreweries, coffeehouses, and other “lifestyle” PR will attract enough hipsters to turn this wasteland into the next Seattle, lol.

So you now know why the want her charged BEFORE he sleazes out of office. You think it could get any more corrupt than this. I agree with this. MC needs a lot more transparency but until the Mayor is out the door, this won’t happen. The trash burning plant fight was going nowhere until Bookie ‘fired’ Pam Myhre, Mason City’s Growth and Development director, as the lead person of the group looking at the plant’s credentials. Pam felt there were many reasons not to pursue the plant and Bookie didn’t like that. He essentially ‘muzzled’ her by also forbidding her to talk with Council member Max Weaver about the project. Once he had Pam out, the plan moved forward but was rejected by the Landfill board. If you remember the Landfill Board vote wasn’t close. The only yea votes were from Mason City members of the board. All others rejected it.

It was the Clear Lake vote that actuallyl killed it. Dangerous, wanted to locate it close to Newman. Bookmeyer didn’t care.
