NEWTON, IOWA – Two inmates at a prison in Newton, Iowa, escaped in February and one has been captured, authorities said.
Escapee Jessy Foley has been apprehended by the Fifth Judicial District Warrant Team and the United States Marshall’s Service. Foley is in custody at the Newton Medium Security Correctional Facility. Escapee Michael Amodeo is still at large and is believed to be in the Central Iowa area.
The Department of Corrections requests that media organizations continue to post or re-post the Michael Amodeo photo with announcement that anyone with information should immediately call 911.
At 9:25 PM February 27, at the Newton minimum security Correctional Release Center during routine count it was discovered that Inmate Michael Amodeo was not present. During second count, completed at 10:05 PM, it also was discovered that Inmate Jessy Foley was discovered missing as well.
Jasper County, Polk County and Warren County Sheriff Departments, Des Moines Police Department and 5th District Warrant Team were notified.
Amodeo is serving a 10 year sentence for Possession of Controlled Substance from Polk County and Prohibited Acts-Meth from Warren County. This sentence began on August 13, 2015.
Foley is serving a 27 year sentence from Polk County for Possession of Controlled Substance, Prohibited Acts-Meth and Voluntary Absence. This sentence began on June 16, 2004.
