NORA SPRINGS – A local woman who enjoyed a night at the local juice bar is telling NIT that she is short $150 after her visit and wants help getting her money back.

NIT is honoring this woman’s request to spread the word while keeping her name anonymous in the hopes that a clue will reveal where her missing cash is. She works in Mason City as a bartender.

This woman was at Pole Barn Theatre in downtown Nora Springs on the night of Saturday, March 5. She claims that late that night, a man there “stole my money out of my wallet. It fell out of my purse and he found it. My friend was standing there when he looked in it and saw it filled with money.”

Allegedly, there was about $150 in the wallet when it went missing. By the time the wallet was turned over to Mason City police, “there was five $1 bills” inside, and that’s all.

It will be difficult or impossible to prove the money was stolen unless a witness comes forward with information. She says police were sympathetic to her predicament but could do little “because no one physically saw him take it”. A report was filed with Nora Springs police but no charges have been filed.  Floyd county deputies also talked to a Pole Barn Theatre employee about the incident.

There are conflicting stories as to exactly where the wallet was actually found. A bouncer at Pole Barn Theatre tells NIT the wallet was found outside on the sidewalk by another, un-named person. The woman who is missing the money says “I heard 3 different stories but the most common was it was found inside in the entrance” to the establishment.

She also feels that a male employee actually took the money. This employee at Pole Barn Theatre tells NIT that when the wallet was found and turned in to him, he put it in a “lost and found” drawer and then later offered to bring the wallet to Mason City – which he did after work.  He dropped it off with a police officer so she could pick it up. A Floyd county deputy interviewed him prior to the drop-off and he denied ever seeing the money or taking it. This employee told NIT that the wallet was found on a sidewalk. Screenshots of text messages reveal that he does claim to have located the wallet in the front entry way and that he told her there was no money inside.  However, he did tell NIT in a later text message that someone else found the wallet.

When the wallet was picked up from the police officer, she found only $5 inside the wallet.

Anyone with any information in this matter should call the Floyd county sheriff’s office at 641-228-1821.

Very very confusing. It sounds as if her friend watched the guy steal the money and let him do it? Next time, leave your money at home or put it in the bank.

“She claims that late that night, a man there “stole my money out of my wallet. It fell out of my purse and he found it. My friend was standing there when he looked in it and saw it filled with money.” And nothing was done right then? “She also feels that a male employee actually took the money.” Bet she’s out to start trouble for the Pole Barn Theater.
