Mason City police are searching for a male suspect who was initially at the scene of a one-car accident Sunday that took place at about 5 PM. Witnesses and police confirm that a vehicle driven by an un-named male with a female passenger was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Carolina Avenue towards the sledding hill in east park.
According to a witness at the scene, “he was at Kum N Go on 12th (Street) and tore off this way. I bet he was doing 80 (miles per hour).”
Another man said he lives north of the sledding hill near the public pool when he “felt” the crash that next took place. The car failed to negotiate the turn from Carolina Avenue to 4th Street NE and slammed into the corner of a house, located at that intersection. The house took serous damage, with a large chunk broken off. The car ending up next to the house on its side.
Police arrested a woman at the scene. Her name was not yet released. The male driver initially spoke with police but then fled on foot, police at the scene told NIT. He was said to be wearing a blue or gray sweatshirt. He ran west.
Katz towing came to the scene to remove the car.
More information as it becomes available.
