MASON CITY – A former mayor has won a seat on the Mason City council.

Tuesday’s special election for the vacant at-large seat wasn’t close, and never appeared it would be after the onslaught of yard signs and apparent organization displayed by the Bill Schickel campaign. The former mayor rounded up 1,938 votes to 543 for Rick Mathes and 96 for Jose Baragan, Jr.

There was just a 13% voter turnout.

Currently, Mr. Schickel is the KCHA Radio station general manager. In addition to being serving three terms as mayor of Mason City, he was also a state representative and the former co-chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa.  HE said during his campaign he wants to give “ALL” citizens a voice and “maintain momentum” in the city.

I used to call him slick willy and I hope he battles the mayor every time they meet and it pisses the boozemeyer off so much he leaves. Slick willy would be a good mayor again.

KCHA radio?

Willie Pickle is in !!!!

Congratulations to Mr. Schickel. Now, we will see if he does what he said he would do and that is listen to ALL of the people. It will be a tough job with the rest of the council and the mayor who controls everything. It is a shame that only 13% of the registered voters bothered to vote.

This was basically a shoo-in, now lets see how he stands up in the council.
