MASON CITY – Police were called to the Walmart Supercenter Monday morning after report of a shoplifter that fled the store without paying for items.
MASon City police told NIT that on Monday morning, June 22 at about 10:50 AM, officers went to Walmart, located at 4151 4th Street SW, to investigate a shoplifter that fled the store without paying for items. An attempt to locate was broadcast for the suspect vehicle. A moment later, a Cerro Gordo County deputy spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 122 headed west toward Clear Lake. The suspect failed to pull over for the deputy and was pursued toward Clear Lake.
The suspect was apprehended in the 200 block of N. 10th Street.
Taken into custody and arrested was Dennis Layne Lester, age 66 of Clear Lake. Lester was charged with theft in the third degree, eluding and interference with official acts. Lester was taken the Cerro Gordo county jail and held on bond.
Assisting Cerro Gordo deputies was Mason City police, Clear Lake police and the Clear Lake fire department.
