The incident took place on Sunday, October 1, 2023. At 10:25 AM that morning, officers with the Charles City police department investigated a collision in the Hy-Vee parking lot on Kelly Street. A gray 2018 Nissan Versa driven by 35-year-old Samantha Yerkes of Greene was backing out of a parking space and struck 59-year-old Danny Lunning of Charles City while he was moving behind her car with shopping carts.
As a result of the collision, Lunning suffered a minor injury, according to police, and was taken to the Floyd County Medical Center for treatment.
Yerkes did not appear to be cited for her driving in the incident.
