SPENCER – An Iowa man died as he attempted to fix a car at the side of a highway this weekend in Clay county.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 37-year-old Steven Francis Kozelka of Peterson, Iowa, was working on a disabled car parked at the side of Highway M27 near 490th Street on June 6 at about 10:55 PM. At that time, a 2001 Chevy Cavalier driven by 16-year-old Steven Lohr Taylor of Peterson, Iowa, struck Kozelka and the car he was working on. Both cars went into a ditch, and a third car parked in front of the disabled car was also damaged.
Kozelka died as a result of the accident. Taylor was injured and taken to a Spencer hospital.
