AMES – A trail of blood led Ames cops to an apartment where a man lives who apparently shot himself in the hand.
The Ames Police Department received a call of shots fired at 1217 Mayfield Drive on April 13, 2015 at 6:51 PM. When officers arrived, they found blood leading to apartment #210. Officers made entry into the residence but no one was found inside the apartment. A short time later, officers located a person with a gunshot wound to the hand at Mary Greeley Medical Center. The injured person was identified as Yuli Ge, 21 years of age. Ge was later transferred and treated at an unknown hospital in Des Moines.
A witness reported that Ge was a resident of 1217 Mayfield Drive, #210. The witness said Ge shot himself in the hand while he was handling a firearm. Ge refused to speak with the responding officers. This incident is under investigation.
