MASON CITY – Rule number one: Don’t drink and drive and then show up to court with the smell of booze radiating from your body.

A Mason City man allegedly broke that rule Friday when he showed up to court at the Cerro Gordo County Law Enforcement Complex. Michael Carl Fransen, age 56, was due in court Friday morning at 9:30 AM for a probation violation connected to a second offense drunk driving conviction. Upon arrival, it was noticed that Fransen “smelled of alcohol” and was arrested and charged with a second violation of his probation and taken to jail.

Fransen is being held on $5,000 bond. He’ll face another probation revocation hearing on December 10.

  1. Was he actually drunk when he showed up for court? Or did he just ‘smell of alcohol’? Can you arrest someone from “Smelling” of alcohol? I don’t think so. If that’s the case then I think some people should be arrested for Nasty Body BO

    1. @MC Citizen-Good question. They arrested him for a probation violation so possible it was part of his probation not to drink alcohol. Otherwise I would think they would have to test him and arrest him for P.I. if he tested over.

  2. THIS DRUNK IS ASKING FOR HELP SO PUT HIM AWAY AND LET HIM SIT FOR A FEW YEARS AND HAVE HIM ATTEND AA IN PRISON. PRETTY EASY TO DO JUST DO IT
