Clear Lake man pleads not guilty to latest charges in domestic abuse saga

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man who has come to Mason City on a number of occasions and assaulted a woman has pleaded not guilty to the latest charges brought against him and awaits trial dates now set.

Daniel Lee Franken, age 24, who lives in Clear Lake with his parents but is now in jail, is set to be arraigned on Monday, October 13 on a charge of felony second degree burglary. He is being held in jail on $50,000 cash-only bond on that charge. Franken also faces a contempt hearing on November 19 for violation of a no-contact order connected to a case where he was accused of felony domestic assault involving strangulation of a Mason City woman but took a plea deal (deferred judgement) down to assault causing injury.

A trial date of May 26, 2015 has been set on the charges of obstruction of emergency communications and 5th degree criminal mischief. Franken has been released on his own recognizance on those charges.

On the morning of September 25 at 2:17 AM, a violation of a no-contact order between Franken and his domestic abuse victim was reported in the 500 block of 21st Street SE, where the woman lives. Police told NIT that Franken reportedly entered the residence of the protected party. Once inside, Franken allegedly assaulted the protected party and obstructed attempts to contact police. A family member chased Franken from the residence and he apparently left in a vehicle. Franken was located a short time later at his parents’ house in Clear Lake and arrested. He also allegedly damaged the woman’s car.

Hell, they will just put him in Beje for six months and let him out on a work release so he doesn’t lose touch with his girl friend here in Mason Chity.

hes just misunderstood

It doesn’t really matter if he pleads guilty he only does what he wants. Might as well look the judge in the eye and tell them to go f**k themselves.
