CLEAR LAKE – A Minnesota man riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle was struck by an unyielding Mason City man in a pickup, and only his helmet saved him from serious traumatic injuries, the sheriff says.

On July 29, 2023, at 4:42 PM, a Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s deputy witnessed a pick-up truck and motorcycle collision at 265th Street and Jonquil Avenue. A 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 58-year-old Jim Royer of Austin, Minnesota, was traveling eastbound on 265th Street (Highway 122) when a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado operated by 21-year-old Brice Cody of Mason City proceeded from the stop sign northbound and collided with Royer’s Harley. The sheriff’s office says Cody did stop at the stop sign, but did not yield to Royer. Royer was thrown from the motorcycle. Royer was transported to Mercy One North Iowa with injuries by the Clear Lake Fire Department.

The sheriff’s office says Royer was wearing a motorcycle helmet and wearing the helmet is accredited to preventing major head injuries to Royer.

Cody was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mason City Police Department and Clear Lake Fire Department.
