CHARLES CITY – A Florida truck driver hit reverse on a road and backed into a destroyed a Charles City man’s motorcycle, and got a ticket for his alleged negligence.

According to Charles City police, the incident took place on July 4, 2023. At 6:18 PM that evening, officers were called to investigate a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Jackson Street and Lane Street. Police say a Volvo semi-tractor driven by 28-year-old Dan Gorun of Orlando, Florida, was in the westbound lane on Lane Street when it reversed into a stopped Suzuki motorcycle behind it, operated by 19-year-old Dalton Heberkorn of Charles City. The Suzuki motorcycle sustained disabling damage estimated by police at $7,500, while the semi sustained no apparent damage.

No one was hurt in the collision, police say.

Gorun was issued a citation for unsafe backing on highway, but has entered a not-guilty plea in the case. He awaits a non-jury trail set for August 30, 2023.
