MASON CITY – A bar patron who was rebuffed by a woman in a parking lot allegedly pulled a gun on her before being “put to sleep” by her boyfriend.
Mason City police responded to a potentially dangerous situation at Tailgaters Bar, 627 South Federal Avenue, around 12:30 AM Saturday morning, after a fight was reported.
At the scene minutes later, police were arriving and questioning bar patrons who muddled about inside and outside the bar. Several individuals with bloodshot, watery eyes puffed on cigarettes and carelessly tossed them on the pavement outside, snuffing them out, as they watched police officers go about their business. A number of individuals were questioned in small groups. Officers took notes and hung around for at lest 30-40 minutes.
Two male subjects approached an NIT reporter and offered information as to what went down.
The first male said that “a dude pulled a gun on Matt’s girlfriend, Amber. The dude was a mess. He already left.”
Minutes later, “Matt” approached the NIT reporter and said “You want a story? I’ll tell you what happened. This guy was talking to my girl out here in the parking lot. He didn’t like what she told him, so he pulled out his gun. Next thing you know, he’s been put to sleep, right here on the ground, know what I mean?” he said, pointing to a row of parked cars. Matt was wearing a black T-shirt with a gun on the front.
“He’s lucky I didn’t have my gun. I would have killed the guy, that’s no joke.”
Police made no arrests, but soon, an officer approached Matt and said in a stern voice “you are no longer wanted here. Leave now.”
Matt told NIT “this is bullshit. I place pool for this bar, and this is how I’m treated.”
Matt’s girlfriend, Amber approached Matt and convinced him to leave. She appeared visibly shaken by the ordeal.
