Charles City man’s terrorism trial set

CHARLES CITY – A trial date has been set for a Charles City man who police say threatened school kids and claimed to belong to a terrorist organization.

Loren T. Saxon, age 48 of Charles City, pled not guilty on September 25 to charges of threat of terrorism and public intoxication. He is now set for a jury trial on October 16 and a pre-trial conference on October 7. He is being held in a Charles City jail on bond.

Charles City police were called to the Best Budget Inn, located at 1416 South Gilbert Street after Saxon was there on Sunday, August 24, and appeared to be intoxicated at 1:43 AM. Saxon allegedly caused a disturbance and claimed to belong to a terrorist organization and said he planned to shoot schoolchildren.

Saxon could face up to 5 years in prison for the class D felony terrorism threat charge.
