MASON CITY – A woman and a Mason City man went to the hospital Thursday morning after a serious car accident.
The accident took place Thursday morning at 7:04 AM at 4th Street SW and Taft Avenue near Hobby Lobby. A Mason City man, 41-year-old David McCoy, claims he ran a red light on his way to work and caused the accident, which caused major damage to his black pickup truck and a car that broadsided it. He was southbound at the intersection of Highway 122 and South Taft. His vehicle collided with an eastbound vehicle driven by Aleen Bailey. Following that impact, McCoy’s vehicle traveled southeast and struck a vehicle driven by Curtis Follmuth.
“I was pretty sure I had a green light, but witnesses at the scene said it was red,” Mr. McCoy told NIT.
McCoy was drove himself to Mercy Hospital and was treated for bumps, bruises and a cut over his left eye, which required 4 stitches. The female involved in the accident was taken by ambulance.
“I was T-boned in the passenger’s side door,” Mr. McCoy said. “My truck is totalled, the Ford Taurus that hit me is totalled. I believe the woman from the Ford is going to be OK, but I’m sure she got banged up. At least her airbags worked. I hope she’s OK. Right now I am at the ER going to be checked out.”
