Iowa man accused of trying to murder cop is returned to jail after being shot

OELWEIN, IOWA – A man who was the subject of an intense manhunt last week after he tried to murder a police officer and then was shot himself as he tried to flee officers has been returned to jail.

Abel Quijas Jr., of 145 7th Street North in Maynard, Iowa, has been returned to custody at the Fayette County Jail after being treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics over the past weekend for a gunshot wound to the arm.

Quijas was injured on September 11th, 2014, when two police officers attempted to arrest Quijas at 210 1st St. SE in Oelwein, Iowa, as the result of an on-going narcotics investigation. Quijas attempted to flee with an officer partially inside his vehicle and attempted to strike another officer. Quijas has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder.
