Winnebago county man sent to jail for drunk driving, child endangerment

justice2GARNER – A Winnebago county man will go to jail and pay hefty fines for driving drunk with a child inside the vehicle.

Steven John Mary, age 29 of Thompson, was convicted of aggravated misdemeanor second offense operating while intoxicated and aggravated misdemeanor child endangerment, stemming from a traffic stop by the Iowa State Patrol on December 6, 2013.

Mary was sentenced to serve seven days in jail and pay $2,541.25, plus court costs for the drunk driving offense. Mary will be required to attend a drinking driver’s course and to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and follow through treatment. His license will be revoked by the Department of Transportation. Mary was also sentenced to serve 180 days in jail and pay $875, plus court costs for the child endangerment charge. All but seven days of the jail sentence were suspended, and Mary will be on probation for one year to the Department of Correctional Services.
