Cops charge 10-year-old boy after incident at school

cited-police-featured1MASON CITY – An incident at a Mason City school last week led to a charge against a 10-year-old boy.

According to Mason City police, on the morning of September 4, 2014 at around 8:50 AM, 10-year-old Matt Simmer became disorderly inside Lincoln Intermediate School towards other students and staff.

Police were called, and after an investigation, Simmer was charged with disorderly conduct  several days later on September 9.

Disorderly conduct is a simple misdemeanor, and if convicted, the accused may be required to pay a fine, not to exceed one hundred dollars, as fixed by the court, or may be required to perform community service as ordered by the court.

Things are so slow in this town that a cop has to get a bust where he can get one. This was a low risk bust kid has no gun and there is no risk of getting into trouble for arresting a real criminal so a win-win for this police department.

I would suggest our local schools and law enforcement be forced to watch old Andy Griffith reruns to learn how to handle these situations …

First felony bark arrests and now 10 year old arrests. Anita and Amanda Ragan pledge $100,000.00 for diversion program at tax payers expense. It’s called Bark and no Bite diversion program. When it fails they will say they only need more money to make work ……..

Sometimes maybe this needs to be done. I know there are a few of the same kids at that school that get in trouble every day. Slips are sent home, parents are called in etc. At what point is enough enough. If the parents can’t handle the kids and they expect the teachers to control the kids. People get pissed off because the cops were called well who knows what the kid did. I know a couple years ago a student at Roosevelt punched a teacher maybe that’s what happened here.

AGREED!

You have got to be kidding me. The school system and parents can not handle a 10 year old kid without calling in the police?? What do we pay all the tax money to the schools for if they can’t handle a 10 year old. And, where the hell are the parents. My Dad would have slapped me into next week for mis-behaving at school. Spare the rod and spoil the child and then call the police. Shame on all of them.

10 year olds these days have access to their daddy’s handguns. If the kid is violent, large in stature, and threatening, a visit from police may be what he needs. Im not sure where the legal obscurity occurred that allows 10 year olds to be charged with adult crimes now. That’s something the legislators need to formally address.

“Allen” my dad would of beat my ass and then I would of got another ass whoopin just for wasting my dads time for doing something so stupid. These little guys that think their so damn tough would of never survived the school days in the 60’s and 70’s.

This is what happens when you take discipline away from parents. But our government knows best… Disorderly conduct charges against a 10 year old, come on, what’s next…

now this is fricken sad a 10 year old boy??? come on pick him up and spanks his 10 yr old ass and send him back home. this is getting pathetic.
