MASON CITY – A Mason City man is in jail this weekend, serving a two-day jail sentence after a guilty plea to domestic assault with strangulation.
Joshua James Rettig, age 28, pled guilty on June 11 to felony domestic assault involving strangulation. Rettig was sentenced by Judge Annette Boehlje to two days in jail and two years of probation. She suspended a $625 fine as part of the plea deal. Rettig must pay $259.50 in court costs. He was placed on a payment plan.
According to police, officers responded to 1432 North Washington Avenue on the evening of February 14th on a report of a physical domestic incident. Rettig was arrested at the scene, and later pled not guilty. Shortly after his arrest, Boehlje had cancelled the protective no-contact order between Rettig and his victim.
