Cops investigate man firing pistols near MC city limits

9-mm-gun-01MASON CITY – Police were called to a south end residence Sunday evening after neighbors complained about a man firing pistols.

Officers arrived at the 3700 block of South Federal Avenue Sunday at about 6:41 PM to investigate the complaint. Police said they were unable to confirm a violation due to a question of whether or not the man was inside or outside city limits.

Officers talked to the 41-year-old male subject and notified him of the complaint. The man said that he would check with the city as to whether or not he was firing his guns outside of city limits. No charges were filed.

Just a couple hours later, however, the man said via social media the he is “legal” and had some choice words for those who called police.

“Thanks to the neighbors for calling me in for shooting my guns! Too bad I’m legal! F*** off!”

A check of a map of Mason City shows that the 3700 block of South Federal Avenue is very close to the east boundary of Mason City.

City code states that it is illegal to shoot or discharge any firearm or air gun inside city limits except when authorized and permitted by the chief of police after investigation for very limited purposes.
