Waldorf holds student awards banquet

waldorf-college-tuition-freezeFOREST CITY – The Waldorf College Student Senate hosted their annual Students Excelling in Activities and Leadership, or SEAL, awards Friday, April, 25 in the Atrium. Several students were honored for their involvement with student organizations and public service activities.

“Candidates for the awards are nominated by peers and employees of the college, and a review committee reviews the nominations and selects one deserving student from the student body for each of the six SEAL awards,” Jason Ramaker, dean of students, said.  “The SEAL Awards is a traditional end of the year program featuring student talent, success, achievement and accolades honoring our best student leaders and student groups.” Student Senate election results were also announced.

Victoria Mens of Slate, Iowa, was elected Student Senate President for the 2014-15 school year.

Thomas Cardwell of Largo, FL, was elected Student Senate Vice President for the 2014-15 school year. Cardwell also received the Returning R.A. of the year award, Senator of the Year award, and the Outstanding Student Program award for his involvement in planning Homecoming week activities.

Austin Heeren of Jewel, Iowa, was elected Student Senate Treasurer for the 2014-15 school year.

Shaye Sutherland of Chaska, Minn., was elected Student Senate Secretary for the 2014-15 school year. She also received two awards: Outstanding Student Program for her involvement with planning Homecoming week activities; and the Outstanding Supporting Member of a Club/Organization for her participation in campus ministry, SWAT (Student Warriors Activities Team), Student Senate, and the Waldorf College Volleyball team. Sutherland is also a Resident Assistant and Orientation Leader.

Ashley Brinkman of Manly, Iowa received the Warrior Service Award for her work with the Hanson Family Life Playground clean up project. Brinkman also received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education on May 3 at Waldorf College graduation.

Cody Clark of Lexington, SC, was awarded the New Resident Assistant of the Year honor.

Karly Ankarlo of Duluth, Minn., received the Outstanding Student Leader award for her involvement in the Waldorf Choir, theme house, and theatre.
