MASON CITY – An apparent homeless man was given an earful early Saturday afternoon by a woman.
NIT was alerted that a man who claimed to be homeless was camped out on 4th Street SW near Hy-Vee and KMart, on the south side of the busy intersection at Briarstone Drive. A woman was there “really giving him a lecture” a caller stated.
It’s been a cold day, with temps near 20 degrees. The man was sitting in the grass with windbreaker pants and jacket, with his hood up, holding a sign that says “HOMELESS ANYTHING HELPS”. A woman was there, too, probably mid-60’s in age, interrupting the man’s business.

At the scene, the man sat patiently, looking at the elderly woman’s face, as she bent over him with animation and hand gestures, pointing at him and then pointing east and to the ground, repeatedly. The man slowly nodded as she continued for at least 5 minutes.
At the end of her lecture, she and the homeless man shook hands, and he stood up as she watched. He towered over her; a large, hulking male, but seemed slow and harmless.
He began to pack up his sign and a few other small items as she drove away in her van, both waving at each other.
As the sagacious do-gooder drove from sight, he then slowly sat back down, leaned against a stop sign, crossed his legs and nestled his sign right back on top of his belly, watching the traffic whiz by.
