Charges pile up for Mason City teen

MASON CITY – A young North Iowa man is quickly finding himself on the wrong side of the law.

Eighteen-year-old Rueben Lee Hickman of Mason City was back in a jail cell Wednesday on fresh theft charges even as he has battled numerous other brushes with the law over the past several weeks.

Mr. Hickman was originally cited on November 23rd at the Mason City Wal-Mart, 3200 4th Street SW, after police received a report of an adult male shoplifter. Hickman was cited by police and released, but was brought back to jail Wednesday morning and now faces a fifth degree theft charge.  He is being held on $300.00 cash/surety bond.

On November 20th, Clear Lake police charged Mr. Hickman with trespassing, to which he immediately plead guilty.  He owes Iowa courts $320.00 in fines and court fees.

To make matters worse for young Rueben, he was busted by Clear Lake police and Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputies on Halloween while in possession of a stolen vehicle. Hickman was charged with felony second degree theft and aggravated misdemeanor third degree burglary.  He is facing a jury trial on January 14th.

Also in October, Hickman pled guilty to trespassing and public intoxication. He still owes $429.00 in court fines and fees.
