DES MOINES – Iowa Federation of Labor President Ken Sagar slammed Representative Steve King in response to Congressman King’s recent remarks comparing immigrants to drug mules and bird dogs.

“Polls have shown that a majority of Iowans are in favor of immigration reform, even a majority of those in Congressman King’s district support the effort to fix our broken immigration system,” Sagar said.

“Iowans clearly want to see immigration reform finally addressed, not more heated rhetoric from Washington D.C. King’s comments are not representative of Iowa” Sagar stated.

King was also mocked on national television last week by political satirist Stephen Colbert and scolded by other leading Republicans for his remarks.

  1. I doubt the poll is accurate. I am a union man and I support Rep. King. and his opposition to this immigration reform bill. Yes, I am conservative and proud of it. The hate and garbage the Democrats stand for turned me off long ago.

    1. Really, the GOP has made it very CLEAR King does not speak for them.

Maybe you and King should start your own country and call it a$$hole Island. De plane…de plane!

  2. Sagar, thanks for the predictable union MSM pro-Democrat response. King’s comments are representative of this Iowan and your “slam” is not. King was stating the truth – you should try it.
I wonder how many of your dues paying members actually think the way you do. I bet they’d oppose if their jobs were to go to a low wage illegal.

  3. Congressman King is right and is not a wingnut or racist. Most Iowans in his district do support him. As far as most Iowan favoring immigration reform it depends on how the questions are asked. If the border security is first then yes they favor immigration reform. If it is just amnesty then no they do not.
