We need NEW REPRESENTATION that cares about the citizens of this town – but you MUST VOTE!
When trying to push the garbage burning facility on the North Iowa region, Mayor Bookmeyer and those helping him (e.g., City Council) put up roadblocks at every crossroad in order to silence those who did not agree with them. Most would safely say that the 50 jobs they promised would never have materialized – so what was their reason exactly for pushing this on everyone? If you are not sure then don’t vote for them.
Everyone on the City Council supported the Mayor on the garbage burning facility, even though they rarely attended meetings in which this was discussed. City Council members did not initiate any dialogue with the citizens who were concerned with this project nor did they directly respond to any of the citizens concerns or questions. Do you want closed minded and uninvolved people representing you?
I was raised to believe that political discussions were a positive thing and that involving citizens in governmental decisions made for stronger communities. Mayor Bookmeyer and the current City Council do not agree. Apparently, they think their way is the only way that matters. If you don’t support this type thinking, please vote for NEW representation on the City Council as well as Max Weaver for Mayor.
The choice for the future is ours. I choose a new way of governing, based on respect for differences and involvement of citizens – versus being stuck in fear and control. How about you?
You can make a difference – VOTE for CHANGE on November 5th.
Take heed!
If you want to change Mason City then I would recommend that you make a copy of this article and go door to door telling your neighbors.
Many people in Mason City do not read NIT. The Globe Gazette refuses to inform the public on the seriousness of the negative leadership from Mayor Bookmeyer and the present city council.
I fear a low voter turnout due to lack of knowledge.
Go out now and knock on doors for a positive change to get the vote out.
Well said Carol, there are many in this town that have had enough of this current mayor and council. I hope that they get out and vote.
I did not like how the mayor handled this issue, especially when he removed Pam Myhre from the panel. I’ve known Pam most of my life and she did not deserve to be removed just because she thought the issue warranted more investigation. She is a fair and balanced person, an independent thinker, and was an asset to this City.
BOOKMEYER is BULLY it is his way or highway. I have seen it many times
Hopefully someday technology will allow us to repurpose our landfill stuff. If the landfill ever caught fire it could literally burn for years. We can’t just keep creating a mountain of trash. It may not have been the right company but I sincerely hope that the Landfill isn’t creating a monument to their fiefdom. Their kingdom has the most to lose so if something good does come along watch out for the landfill throwing up all kinds of roadblocks.
True!! if she is against him and I am not saying she is her job would be on the line hell lets me just say it she would be in the unemployment line. Seen it happen to people I know he is a bully!!!
The company that came to town is still trying to find a place to land. No city has taken them. To many unanswered questions. I am thankful everyday that plant never made it to Mason city. Went from 50 jobs to 28 to 10 if the plant went to automation. I can still hear them saying we wouldn’t go automation and put people out of jobs. Yea will tell your investors that and lets see how long they support you.
Excellent Op-ed.
